Also, Wisconsinites experience a very low rate of heart disease. The regional average is 4.26% and the Wisconsin average is 3.8%. This is the second-lowest rate in the Midwest next to Minnesota. Lastly, Wisconsin has a lower-than-usual rate of heart attacks. The percentage of the population that has suffered a heart attack is 3.7%. Again, Wisconsin is only second to Minnesota in this category.

Endorsements

Wisconsin is a compact state. If you are moving to Wisconsin or claiming it as your primary state of residence, you will need to apply for application by endorsement in order to use your license in Wisconsin. General instructions are listed below.

  • Current active license.
  • Declare Wisconsin as your primary state of residence if you are from a nurse licensure compact state. You must pay the applicable fee.
  • Completed application with a fee of $82 (add $10 for a temporary permit).
  • Passing NCLEX results.
  • You must be a graduate of an approved nursing school.
  • Provide proof of your nursing education.
  • Verification of original licensure.

Renewals cost $86 and take place every even year on the last day of February. You must renew your license online or request a paper copy. You will also be required to complete a workplace survey.

Continuing competency

Wisconsin does not have any mandatory continuing education requirements.

Blended class Classroom
Format This is a personalized and adaptive class completed online with a computer. After the class you will schedule with an instructor to complete the hands-on portion of the class. This is a traditional classroom class with an instructor.
Course completion Complete the online portion + hands-on skills session with an AHA Instructor. Contact a Training Center in your area to sign up for an instructor-led class, see above
Time The online portion of HeartCode BLS can be completed in approximately 1 to 2 hours. Time to complete the hands-on skills session varies around approximately 60 minutes, depending on your experience level. A full BLS provider course can take 4.5 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing.
