Continuing competency
The American Nurses Credentialing Center or one of its local offices must approve, present, or accept any continuing education credit. You will not have to submit proof of continuing education at the time of renewal; but, you should keep any documentation for four years in the case of an audit.

Off-duty firefighter's heroic CPR saves baseball player's life
Oct 24, 2023 --A Warwick firefighter is being lauded as a hero for performing CPR on a man who suffered cardiac arrest while playing baseball. Barlow, invited by his girlfriend's father to join a father-son baseball game, witnessed the medical emergency at North Providence High School. The man, racing from second base to home, suddenly collapsed. Barlow swiftly reacted, finding no pulse and commencing CPR, despite the distressing situation unfolding before the man's child. Despite being off-duty, Barlow instinctively switched into action, relying on his training. Paramedics transported the man to The Miriam Hospital, where he remarkably regained consciousness. Barlow emphasizes the significance of CPR training, urging others to become certified, as simple actions can save lives, especially in diverse settings like a baseball field hosting youngsters and college students.

Farmington man dies despite CPR efforts at Misquamicut State Beach
Jul 8, 2023 --A tragic incident unfolded at Misquamicut State Beach in Rhode Island as a 74-year-old Farmington resident, Frank Sievel, succumbed after being retrieved from the waters on Friday. Initial reports from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management indicated Sievel was unresponsive upon discovery. Lifeguards swiftly initiated CPR and employed an automated external defibrillator in their attempts to revive him before paramedics reached the scene. Despite efforts, Sievel was rushed to Westerly Hospital but was pronounced dead. The official cause of his passing remains undisclosed at this time.

Rhode Island pushes for more CPR-trained 911 operators
Mar 22, 2019 --A Rhode Island legislator has passed a bill that would increase the number of CPR certification among 911 operators. The bill requires that there should be at least one telecommunicator CPR-trained operator to be on duty at all times. Telecommunicator CPR can help callers to do CPR to the victim while waiting for first responders to arrive.

Elderly man struck by a car has been identified
Dec 1, 2018 --A man who was trying to cross the street was struck by a car on Lambert Lind Highway. The driver immediately stopped to call 911 said the police officers who were on the scene. Officers who responded to an emergency call that Friday morning identified the victim as 68-year-old David J. Quinn. He was found lying on the street without pulse and with a head injury. The officers immediately performed CPR on the elderly man who was later brought to Rhode Island Hospital but declared critical.

This school nurse and teacher is a hero
Sep 21, 2018 --Joe Slater, a 15-year-old student from the Exeter West Greenwich Junior/Senior High School was playing basketball when he suddenly collapsed in the gym. Dawn Seitz, a school nurse and also a teacher was called on the scene and when she checked on Slater, the boy, who does not have a history of heart disease whatsoever, did not have any pulse. She requested for somebody to call 911. While waiting for paramedics to arrive, the nurse immediately performed CPR and Slater regained consciousness after a few minutes. Seitz recently received the Golden Apple Award after fellow teacher Nichole Pichette nominated her to this prestigious award-giving body.

Nov 11, 2016 --It was a regular gym day for Sgt. Christopher Lefort when he noticed another gym worker suddenly going down, his body laying lifeless on the floor. The police officer quickly called jumped into action by telling a nearby employer to call for 911, he then began administering CPR to the dying man until paramedics arrived and assisted him. The victim is successfully recovering at the nearest medical center.
