Nevada is a relatively unhealthy state compared to the rest of the Western region. For instance, for every 100,000 population in Nevada approximately 283 people die from cardiovascular related issues. This is forty-five more deaths than the regional average of two hundred and thirty-eight.
Nevada skyrockets above the rest of the Western states with the percentage of the population that does not have health care. Twenty one percent (21%) of the residents of Nevada don’t have access to health insurance. Finally, the rate of heart attacks in Nevada is five percent (5%). This is almost one point five percent (1.5%) higher than the regional average of three point five seven percent (3.57%).
Each state needs a competent medical workforce to meet the needs of its citizens. However, the requirements for some health care professions are not the same in each state. That is why it is important to find out what is required of you as a future or current registered nurse before moving across state lines. Contact information is located at the bottom of this page.
The general requirements for endorsement in the state of Nevada are listed below:
The Nevada Board of Nursing also requires applicants to have a valid Social Security number, passing NCLEX scores, and current, permanent licensure.
More specific information can be found in the Nevada RN/LPN Endorsement Application Instructions. It includes fingerprint instructions along with the endorsement application and instructions. Application fee is $105, Fingerprint/Background check fee is $40.
Foreign graduates of international nursing programs must submit a copy of your transcript that indicates nursing degree and date of graduation. The Board will contact you if you are required to complete the CGFNS/CES report. Visit the CGFNS official website for more information.
Registered nurses must complete 30 hours of continuing education in order to renew their licenses. All courses must be nursing-related. Exceptions may be made for newly licensed nurses. That is, if you have been licensed within the last two years, then you may not have to complete an additional 30 hours for your initial license renewal. However, all RNs must take a one-time, four-hour bioterrorism CE class.
For more information regarding continuing education, including approved providers, see the full list of Nevada Approved CE Providers.
